James A. Henry, PhD, is an audiologist with a doctorate in behavioral neuroscience. He spent over 35 years as an auditory researcher, focusing almost exclusively on tinnitus. During his career he received more than $28 million in research funding as principal or co-principal investigator across 43 projects. He has authored over 250 publications, including more than 140 peer-reviewed journal articles and 10 books. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, and he has lectured nationally and internationally throughout his career.

Clinical Advisory Board Member

Jim is part of the Freequency Clinical Advisory Board. His research background spans tinnitus assessment, progressive tinnitus management, and the development of structured clinical protocols used by audiologists. His input ensures that the approach behind Freequency reflects current evidence and clinical practice in the field.

One area Jim has contributed to is the connection between tinnitus and hearing loss, which is often overlooked during intake. His work on this relationship has directly informed how Freequency approaches onboarding for new users.

Tinnitus affects an estimated 50 million Americans. Most of them never receive structured support beyond their first clinical visit. Jim's research career has been dedicated to closing that gap, and his expertise helps Freequency do the same.

Curious  to make sense of your own experience with hearing loss and tinnitus, or simply curious about the science behind these two often-misunderstood conditions, this is a clear and grounded place to start.
