Why Freequency

Tinnitus loosens its grip when you make room for it instead of fighting it. Each session, Professor Tone plays the sound you know all too well — and calmly listening for it gently trains your brain to let it fade into the background.

No miracle cure, no empty promises: the ringing may never fully disappear, but the disturbance can. Freequency wraps exposure techniques — recommended in the European tinnitus guidelines — in a game gentle enough to play every single day.

Discover Freequency

From the science to the daily exercises — dive deeper into what Freequency can mean for you.

The science

Exposure therapy is recommended in the European guideline for tinnitus treatment — and that's exactly what Freequency is built on. An international advisory board of audiologists and psychologists actively helps shape the program: everything you read and hear in the app comes from them and the team.

FAQ

Where can I download Freequency?

Freequency is available in both the App Store (iPhone) and Google Play (Android). Search for 'Freequency' or use the download links on our website at freequency.app.

Which devices are compatible with Freequency?

On iPhone, Freequency works on devices running iOS 18 or higher — including the iPhone XS, XR, 11, SE (2nd generation), 12, 13, SE (3rd generation), 14, and 15. You can check if your device supports iOS 17 in your phone's settings. On Android, your device needs to support ARCore. You can check the full list of compatible Android devices at developers.google.com/ar/devices.

Is Freequency free to use?

The app is not free, but you can try the tone matching tool at no cost to see if your tinnitus sound is available in the app. If you're happy with the match, you can choose a monthly or yearly subscription. Newsletter subscribers may also receive special discount offers.

How do I set up my tinnitus tone?

When you first open the app, you'll be guided through the tone setup automatically. You can also access it later via My Profile → Manage Tones → Create New Tone. The tone maker lets you create and fine-tune a computer-generated tinnitus sound to match what you hear in your head. Always use earphones or a Bluetooth headset — not your phone's speaker — for the most accurate result. Step-by-step guides are available on our website for both iPhone and Android.

What is the hearing test, and why don't I see it?

It's a screening test in the Practice tab that estimates your hearing threshold for each ear across six frequencies and stores the result as an audiogram in your profile. It's currently only available in the Netherlands, so the option is hidden on devices set to another region. It's a screening, not a diagnosis — take the result to an audiologist or your GP.
