If you've received a Freequency code — from your audiologist, a patient organisation, an event, or directly from us — redeeming it on Android works differently than on iPhone. It's not hidden by accident: Google simply puts the redeem field somewhere most people don't expect.
The short version: don't start in the Play Store. Start in Freequency, tap the plan you want, and redeem your code on the Google Play payment screen that appears.
Why Android is different
On iPhone, an App Store code is redeemed in the App Store app and turns into credit on your Apple Account, which is then used automatically the next time you subscribe. You redeem first, subscribe second.
Google Play works the other way around for subscription codes. A code isn't credit — it's an offer attached to a specific subscription. Google can only apply it once it knows which plan you're buying, so the redeem field lives inside the checkout screen. You subscribe first, and redeem as part of that same flow.
This also means the Play Store's own Redeem code screen will often reject a Freequency code with an error. That's expected. It isn't a broken code.
Step by step
- Open Freequency on your Android phone and sign in to your account.
- Go to the subscription screen (Profile → Subscription, or the screen you see when your trial ends).
- Tap the plan you want. Nothing is charged yet — this only opens Google's checkout.
- The Google Play payment sheet slides up from the bottom, showing the price and your current payment method.
- Tap the payment method (or the small arrow next to it) to open the list of options.
- Choose Redeem code.
- Enter your code and tap Redeem.
- The sheet returns to the checkout, now showing the discount or free period applied. Check that the new price looks right.
- Tap Subscribe to confirm.
You'll get a confirmation from Google Play by email, and Freequency unlocks straight away.
Good to know
- Redeem before you subscribe, not after. A code can't be applied to a subscription that's already running. If you've already subscribed and then received a code, contact us before doing anything else.
- Use the right Google account. The subscription is tied to whichever Google account is active in the Play Store on that phone. Check the account avatar at the top of the payment sheet before you redeem.
- A code gives you a free period, not a permanent free subscription. When the redeemed period ends, the subscription renews at the normal price unless you cancel. You'll see the exact renewal date on the checkout screen before you confirm.
- You can cancel at any time. Go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, or Play Store → your avatar → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling before the renewal date means you keep access until the free period ends and are never charged.
- One code per account. Codes can't be stacked or combined with another offer.
If the code doesn't work
Work through these before getting in touch:
- "Invalid code" — check for typos. Codes don't contain spaces, and the letter O and the digit 0 are easy to mix up. Copy and paste it if you can.
- "Code already redeemed" — most codes work once. If you've shared it, or reinstalled the app after using it, it may already be spent.
- The Play Store rejected it — you used the Play Store's Redeem code screen instead of the in-app checkout. Follow the steps above instead.
- You don't see "Redeem code" — scroll down in the payment method list; it usually sits below your cards and Google Play balance.
- Nothing unlocked after paying — force-close Freequency and reopen it. If it's still locked, sign out and back in to refresh your subscription status.
Redeeming on iPhone
For completeness, on iOS:
- Open Freequency, tap your profile picture in the top right.
- Tap Redeem Gift Card or Code.
- Enter the code and confirm.
