Dian van Horrik is Freequency's corporate lawyer. Where the rest of the team is busy with exercises, illustrations, and pilots, Dian makes sure everything that comes out of that is also legally sound. An app used in healthcare comes with agreements: with hospitals and clinics, with partners at home and abroad, and with the people who download the app. Dian makes sure those agreements are clearly put on paper and understandable for everyone.

An important part of that work is in the agreements with healthcare institutions and partners. When Rob has set up a partnership and Sophie is preparing a pilot, Dian is the one who puts the agreements in writing. Who does what, what may happen with data, and what if something changes. Not to make things complicated, but to prevent confusion later on. As far as Dian is concerned, good agreements are the ones you never have to look up again.

Dian also keeps an eye on the terms of the app and the privacy policy. Freequency works with data about how people use the app, and that calls for care. What is collected, why, and for how long is it kept. Dian makes sure those choices comply with the rules and are explained honestly to users, in language you do not have to read three times. Better a short, honest text than ten pages nobody reads.

Legal work in a small team also means thinking along. When a new idea comes to the table, Dian looks early on at what is needed to arrange it properly, so the team does not run into surprises afterwards. That lets the rest of the team focus on the app itself, with the certainty that the foundation underneath is solid.
